True IL AA & Box Director
Austin Curtis
Austin Curtis grew up in central New York, in the greater Utica area. He started playing lacrosse in 8th grade and hasn’t put down a stick for more than a few months at a time and only that long to travel through Southeast Asia. He played lacrosse for his local school program, Whitesboro high school, where he was a named captain his senior year and second team all CNY as well as earning a silver medal as a starting close defenseman for the Central team in the Empire State Games, going 5-1 (2011). While in high school, he played club lacrosse for the CNY Roadhawks out of Syracuse, NY where he earned most of his looks from top colleges in the country (including, Loyola, Syracuse, Brown, Air Force, and many more). Ultimately, he chose Jacksonville University for the aviation program, the prospect of being part of a new D1 lacrosse program and of course the weather…. While at Jacksonville, Austin was a 3-year starter, 3x first team all-conference selection (MAAC, A-SUN, SOCON), and captain his senior year (2015). After college, Austin opted out of professional lacrosse as the landscape was not what it is today and moved to Melbourne, Australia to play lacrosse and travel the world, spending 2 months in Southeast Asia. After returning to America, Austin was named the assistant coach of Hamilton College’s men’s lacrosse team. He stayed in that position for 3 years, helping them to beat NESCAC rival Bowdoin for the first time in school history, just before COVID put an end to the season. When the world began to resume normal operations, Austin joined the new semi pro box lacrosse team in his hometown, the Utica Yeti. He was a starting defenseman for this team and played against NLL talent on a weekly basis (2021). In December 2021, Austin moved to Illinois to further pursue his career in lacrosse, taking the position of Regional Director for the North Suburbs of True Lacrosse Illinois and has recently become the director of the box lacrosse program for True IL. as well. Summer or 2022, Austin became an inaugural member and starting defenseman for the Chicago Portagers, the local semi pro box lacrosse team as well as the 2022 ULAX summer city league MVP.  Â
