Linda Delaney
Linda Delaney is an accomplished dual-sport collegiate athlete, seasoned coach, and proven program leader whose career spans more than two decades across field hockey and lacrosse at the high school, collegiate, club, and community levels.Â
Linda serves as the True Virginia Girls Director, having launched True Fredericksburg Girls Lacrosse in 2022 – only the second girls’ lacrosse program in Virginia. She oversees programming, staffing, communication, and strategic development across multiple age groups and plays a central role in expanding True’s footprint across Virginia. Outside of her state duties, she has been a staff member of True National since 2023, coaching the 2029 team and then the 2030 Stripes team.Â
Linda is also a member of the University of Mary Washington’s (UMW) women’s lacrosse coaching staff since 2020. Â
A native of Riva, Maryland, Linda is a 2003 graduate of Lynchburg College (VA), where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and was a Dean’s List student-athlete. A four-year letter winner in both field hockey and lacrosse, she earned All-Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) team and All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (All-ODAC) honors six times in her career, three times in both sports. Â
In field hockey, Linda was a 2001 and 2002 NFHCA All-South Regional All-American and NFHCA All-American. She helped lead the Hornets to the 2001 ODAC Championship and NCAA tournament appearances in 2001 (Elite 8) and 2002 (Sweet 16), and she led all NCAA divisions in assists during her junior season. She concluded her field hockey career ranked among the program’s all-time leaders with 144 points, 55 goals, and 34 assists. After her senior season concluded, she was selected to participate in the NFHCA Senior North/South All-Star game in Springfield, MA, where she contributed two goals in a 4-4 tie. She currently ranks 2nd in goals per game (5), 2nd in assists per game (5), 2nd in assists per season (19), 3rd in most points per game (11), 8th in career assists (34), 9th in career points (144), 9th in career goals (55) and 13th in points per season (59).Â
In lacrosse, Linda served as team captain and team MVP, excelling as a defensive midfielder and draw specialist. She recorded 86 goals, 42 assists, and ranks among Lynchburg’s career leaders: 3rd in single season caused turnovers (31), 5th in career ground balls (188) and 8th in career draw controls (133).Â
Her dual sport athletic excellence earned her Lynchburg College’s Female Athlete of the Year honors as a junior and then the following year, the Senior Athlete of the Year. She was inducted into the Lynchburg College Athletic Hall of Fame twice. Once as an individual in 2015 and then as a member of the 2001 field hockey team in 2016.Â
Linda began her coaching career at her alma mater, South River High School (MD), where in two different instances she led the junior varsity field hockey program to undefeated seasons. Her first collegiate position was the assistant field hockey and women’s lacrosse coach at Washington & Lee University (W&L) from 2004–2006, helping guide both programs to ODAC Championships and NCAA tournament appearances. Her teams set program records in wins, consecutive wins, goals, defensive stats, and shutouts. She coached multiple All-ODAC, All-Region, and All-American selections and supported all aspects of W&L’s hosting of the 2005 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Final Four Championship.Â
In the Summer of 2005, she volunteered with two international tournaments, the IFWLA World Cup as a team host for New Zealand and Canada and worked with several countries at the Rabobank Women’s Hockey Champions Challenge in Virginia Beach, VA.Â
Over the next decade, Linda continued to coach and serve as an athletics administrator at Randolph College, Lynchburg College, Limestone College, The Baldwin School (PA), and Gwynedd-Mercy University (GMU). While at GMU, she helped secure back-to-back Colonial State Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championships and NCAA tournament berths – she coached nine of the top 25-point scorers and five of the top goal scorers in school history. Throughout this time period, she also officiated at the scholastic level in Maryland, North Carolina and South Carolina.Â
Linda contributed significantly to the revival of the Elizabethtown College women’s lacrosse program, serving as both Assistant Coach and Interim Head Coach. In addition, she was the field hockey coach at Hershey and Manheim Township high schools (PA) and coached for multiple club programs – including Central Pennsylvania Lacrosse (CPL) Impact, Lanco Elite, and IM3/Spooky Nook Lacrosse. Â
After relocating to Virginia in 2016, Linda was the Manager and Sport Director at the Fredericksburg Field House- overseeing field hockey, lacrosse, and floor hockey programming while coaching field hockey at Massaponax High School. She also served for three years as the USA Field Hockey Futures Site Director/Coach. In 2016, she also founded the James Monroe High School girl’s lacrosse program, guiding the team to a state playoff appearance in 2019 and earning Evergreen Conference Coach of the Year and Free Lance-Star All-Area Coach of the Year honors.Â
Linda remains deeply committed to community development in the sport. She has served on the FXBG Lacrosse Board since 2019, helping run camps, clinics, and local initiatives, and has been an instructor for the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Lacrosse Camp, introducing over 150 elementary and middle school students to the game. In 2025, she began volunteering at Riverbend High School during a coaching shortage, supporting the team when her NCAA schedule allowed. Â
Linda currently resides in Spotsylvania, VA with her husband, Drew, the Assistant Athletics Director at UMW and former men’s lacrosse coach, with their dog, Arthur and cat, Shoots.Â
