Gowdy
Greg Gowdy has been director of True Fredericksburg since 2024. He oversees the tryouts, registrations, and team placement for over 120 players from 3rd-12th grade. He created a positive environment for competition, motivation, and improvement, helping his teams win four tournaments in the last year and guiding 16 players to commit to college programs. Greg was also recently hired as an assistant lacrosse coach at the University of Mary Washington (DIII). He previously served as head coach for the boy’s lacrosse program at Stafford High School, where he was named District Coach of the Year (2025), and helped the team to win their first winning record and first district tournament win since 2017. He coached five All-District players and three players who committed to college. From 2021-2024, Greg was the assistant men’s lacrosse coach at Southern Virginia University, where he helped the team to back-toback conference championship appearances (2022-2023) and the program’s first ever Conference Championship and NCAA Appearance (2022). He coached 11 players who earned All-Conference defensive honors, and one USILA Senior All-Star selection. As a student athlete, Greg attended Southern Virginia University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management & Leadership. Greg was named to the President’s List in the fall of 2016, and the Provost’s List in 2015 & 2016. He was selected to the Capital Athletic Conference All-Academic Team and served as captain of SVU’s men’s lacrosse team from 2015-2017. He previously completed two years towards an Associate of Arts Degree at Northern Virginia Community College, where he earned a 4.0 GPA and was a NOVA Presidential Scholar (2013 & 2014) and earned the Pinnacle Award in 2014. He was also a standout on the field, earning the NOVA lacrosse team’s MVP in 2013, First Team All-Region Lacrosse Defensive Player in 2014, and NOVA Student Scholar Athlete Award in 2013. In his role as director of True Fredericksburg, Greg’s goal is to ensure every player comes away with a positive experience and develops to reach their potential under his leadership and guidance. He is passionate about growing the game in his community and welcomes the opportunity to run free clinics at local high schools and rec programs throughout the area.
At Milton, he is the Boys Head Lacrosse coach, and has previously coached Hockey, Golf and Gymnastics. He was the US Lacrosse Vermont State Coach of the Year in 2013, Man of the Year in 2015 and later that year was inducted into the US Lacrosse Vermont Chapter Hall of Fame. He has coached for the Quebec National lacrosse program and is a US Lacrosse certified coach and Canadian Lacrosse Association Master Facilitator for Men’s Box Lacrosse. Most recently, he has been coaching 802 Club Lacrosse since 2017. Â
His college lacrosse career was spent at the University of Vermont Catamounts (‘07-’08), and he won a NJCAA Championship at Herkimer CCC (‘05.) He has an extensive playing career that includes 2 Canadian National Field Lacrosse Championships, representing Canada at the U-19 World Championships in 2003, Jr.A and Sr.A Box Lacrosse, being drafted by the San Jose Stealth in the 2008 NLL entry draft, and recently concluding his playing career for the Vermont Voyageurs from 2009-2016.Â
Wagar is currently pursuing his leadership endorsement and working on an internship towards a principal’s license through St.Michael’s College. He lives in Milton, Vermont with his wife Stephanie and two children, Zeke and Zella.  Â
Trevor is extremely passionate about developing lacrosse in Vermont and is excited to work locally to re-ignite players in the state and to focus on community connections and accessibility to make TRUE Vermont lacrosse a highly desirable pathway for players to play, have fun and grow as future leaders.Â
