True Lacrosse is pleased to announce its expansion into Massachusetts with the founding of the True Mass Central program for girls. This newest program to True’s nationwide network of travel teams will serve the youth girls’ lacrosse community in Marlborough, MA and its surrounding area.

Leading the True Mass Central program will be Julia Rowland, current head coach of the girls’ varsity lacrosse team at Groton School, where she is in her second year. A Massachusetts native, Rowland attended Acton Boxborough Regional High School, where she played lacrosse and basketball. She went on to Hamilton College, where she was a member of the women’s varsity lacrosse, soccer, and basketball teams.

Rowland’s playing career was interrupted by COVID-19, prompting her to begin her coaching journey at Massachusetts powerhouse Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School. She spent two seasons there as offensive coordinator, guiding the team to the Elite Eight and Final Four. Her coaching experience also includes notable collegiate roles: she served as offensive coordinator at Division III standout Franklin and Marshall College; she spent a year as defensive coordinator at Division I St. Bonaventure University, where she helped the team secure their first Atlantic 10 playoff berth in 17 years. While working at SBU, she also earned her Master’s in Sports Journalism. Since returning to the Massachusetts lacrosse community, Rowland has taken on a prominent leadership role with the Central Lacrosse Club, where she has coached for over seven years. After serving as a master coach for over two years, Rowland became the club’s director in October 2024, a role in which she continues to serve.

Erin Hellmold, True Lacrosse Girls vice-president, is excited about the opening of True Mass Central with Rowland at the helm. “Central Mass is teeming with talent, and we are thrilled to be able to offer our elite travel programming and training to the young lacrosse community there through the founding of True Mass Central,” Hellmold said. “Rowland has had experience at nearly every level in the game. She is enthusiastic, energetic, and incredibly smart and skilled; we are confident she is the perfect person to lead this new program. Young girls eager to learn lacrosse, develop their skills, and compete at a high level are really going to enjoy the model we employ at True Lacrosse. Our approach to training players equips them with the skills they need to build and grow their game. Additionally, all girls who play for True Mass Central will have immediate access to our tiered competitive programming, including our National Teams, and All-Region Teams – and our expansive recruiting network. We can’t wait to get started with True Mass Central!”

All girls interested in joining the inaugural True Mass Central Teams are invited to attend tryouts on July 22^nd and 24^th.
