Celebrating National Girls & Women in Sports Day with True Lacrosse

At True Lacrosse, we are proud to celebrate National Girls & Women in Sports Day by recognizing the incredible progress of the women’s game and our dedicated staff, players, and families who continue to elevate it.

Expanding Opportunities for Girls

In recent years, True Lacrosse has significantly expanded its girls’ programs, offering more opportunities for young female athletes to develop their skills and compete at the highest levels. With the launch of new programs in Ohio, California, Long Island, and the addition of talented, experienced directors leading these programs, we are reaffirming our commitment to fostering growth, increasing accessibility, and empowering the next generation of women’s lacrosse players.

Progress in the Women’s Professional Game

As the world prepares to welcome lacrosse to the 2028 Summer Olympics to be held in Los Angeles, California, the PLL announced its launch of the Women’s Lacrosse League, “a groundbreaking step forward for the sport, giving elite women athletes a premier stage to compete, inspire, and make their mark,” said Paul Rabil, co-founder and president of the PLL.

In its inaugural year, the WLL will host four teams to compete in the Olympic sixes format. Prior to the creation of the WLL, Athletes Unlimited – a network of professional women’s sports – hosted lacrosse teams until they suspended their operations in December 2024. The WLL will pick up where AU left off and provide women with a professional, competitive outlet.

Women have long competed and excelled in lacrosse, and will now have the opportunity to take the game to a global stage, providing young girls everywhere with even higher heights to aspire and new heroes to admire as they blaze their own trail in the sport they love.

Caitlin Prince, vice president at True Lacrosse, is excited about what the addition of lacrosse to the Olympics represents for the game and for the young girls who play. “Lacrosse being included in the 2028 Olympics is a game-changer for the sport and the athletes who have been pushing it forward for years. As someone who’s spent my career creating opportunities for girls in lacrosse, seeing it reach this level is incredible. The establishment of the WLL in 2025 is another major step in growing the women’s game, giving athletes a platform to compete at the highest level. For young players today, the Olympic dream is real, and that’s something we’ve all been working toward—more visibility, more opportunities, and a bigger stage for the sport we love.”

Program Spotlight

We’re putting the spotlight on one of our newer girls’ programs, True Belles based in Philadelphia, PA. See below for how the program is thriving!

True Belles Program – Kennett Square, Philadelphia

Currently hosts 145 players across 8 teams, showcasing significant growth and sustained success.

Recruiting & Collegiate Commitments

The 2026 team has 12 verbal commitments to play collegiately as of February 1st, reflecting strong player development and recruitment efforts.

Competitive Success

The 2029 team competed in the NGLL championship last year and is gearing up for its spring season launch in the coming weeks.

True National Representation

Multiple age groups from the True Belles program have earned spots on True National teams, reinforcing the program’s high level of talent and competition.

Overall Growth & Impact

The program continues to expand, providing top-tier training, national-level competition, and valuable recruiting opportunities for female athletes in the region.

Spotlighting Our Staff

Our success wouldn’t be possible without the exceptional women leading the way. Most recently, True Lacrosse welcomed Lauren O’Brien to our phenomenal staff of talented women. Lauren is director of the True Columbus Girls program, which is thriving in its youth as one of the newest programs to True Lacrosse. We are proud and honored to host a diverse staff of remarkable women whose goal it is each day to help young girls of all ages grow in their skills, confidence, teamwork, discipline, leadership, and resilience.

True Lacrosse is also pleased at the growth of our All Region Girls programming, which hosts top players from True programs throughout the country. The 2025 All Region Games, recently held in Naples, Florida, welcomed thousands of True Lacrosse players and their families, where they were able to connect with other players in our network of teams and compete in fun, friendly games in a beautiful setting.

As we celebrate National Girls & Women in Sports Day, we remain committed to providing opportunities, fostering growth, and shaping the future of women’s lacrosse. The journey is just beginning, and we’re excited to continue building a strong and supportive community for young female athletes across the country.
