Recon and Ohana Merge with True Long Island - now offering both girls and boys programming

True Long Island announces merger with Recon and Ohana Lacrosse

Extending its reach and impact within the storied Long Island lacrosse community, TrueLacrosse is pleased to announce its merger with Recon Lacrosse and Ohana Lacrosse. Recon has hosted teams for boys and girls, and will be joining True Lacrosse to form TrueLong Island Recon Boys teams. Additionally, the girls of Recon and Ohana will form the first-ever True Long Island Girls program.

By uniting both Recon and Ohana girls’ programs into True Lacrosse, all players will have unfettered access to all the perks of playing for True Lacrosse, including more training hours each year, professional coaches, access to elite events, and an extensive recruiting network.

Additionally, both boys and girls will be eligible for True’s advanced programming, including our All-Region Teams and National Teams. These programs host top TrueLacrosse players from across the country who then compete together in some of the nation’s most prestigious showcases and tournaments.

MEET THE DIRECTORS

Leadership members from each program will join the True Lacrosse Long Island staff to ensure a seamless transition for players and families. Steven Jacobs and Paul DeSimoneof Recon Lacrosse will lead the new True Long Island Recon boys’ program. Jacobs will also assist in leading the girls’ program alongside Ohana Director Mike McGuire and current True Long Island Director Bobby Moltisanti.

Steven Jacobs

Jacobs has served as Recon director of player personnel for the past 15 years. A standoutplayer at Towson University, Jacobs was part of two CAA Championship teams and two NCAAtournament appearances. He has years of coaching experience at Plainview Old Bethpage HighSchool and Hempstead School District. From 2016-2018, he served as the defensive coordinatorand assistant coach at Nassau Community College, a nationally ranked program with 23National Championships. Most recently, Jacobs completed his advanced degree from LongIsland University in Educational Leadership and Administration.

Paul DeSimone

A native of Hicksville, New York, where he played high school lacrosse under Hall of FameCoach Bill “Bear” Meyer, DeSimone was recruited to coach immediately upon graduation for theSt. Ignatius Youth program. That kicked off a lengthy career coaching youth lacrosse on LongIsland with such programs as the Plainview Old Bethpage PAL Youth program, the Storm TravelClub, and the last 14 years with Recon Lacrosse. DeSimone also coached and played in theadult league at Cantiague Park with the Red Wave, one of the longest-running adult leagues inthe country.

Mike McGuire

True Long Island Girls will also welcome Mike McGuire to the program. McGuire is the co-founder and director of the Long Island Ohana Girls Lacrosse Club, bringing over 20 years of coaching experience to True Lacrosse. He serves as the varsity girls’ head lacrosse coach at Lindenhurst High School on Long Island, NY, a position he has held since 2017. Assisting him will be the current True Long Island director and tenured community leader, Coach Bobby Moltisanti.

Bobby Moltisanti

Anchoring the True Long Island leadership team is Director Bobby Moltisanti, a position he has held since the program’s inception in 2023. An established leader in the lacrosse community, Moltisanti has been coaching for over 25 years, the last 12 of those as head coach of the Smithtown West Bulls. He is a four-time recipient of the Suffolk County Division 1 Coach of the Year award, and his win percentage places him in the top five among Suffolk County coaches and in the top 15 for all-time career wins.

The Long Island leadership staff possesses intimate knowledge of operating successful lacrosse programs after guiding their respective programs for many years. Their leadership and guidance throughout this partnership and into the programs’ inaugural travel seasons with True will ensure players are prepared to step on the fi eld and compete at their best.

Additionally, we will host our inaugural tryouts for our True Long Island Recon programs beginning on July 9th. Boys and girls from youth to high school are invited to attend.
